The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has confirmed the arrest of a man and his son over alleged examination malpractice.
The agency did not disclose the names of the accused persons but revealed that the offence was committed during the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB registrar disclosed this while on an inspection tour of the UTME centres in Kaduna on Wednesday.
Oloyede said the father was caught trying to impersonate and take the examination for his son, adding both suspects have been detained by the police.
Oloyede said technology is helping the examination body to check malpractice, adding, “For those who engage in cheating, they should know that it does not pay.”
He described impersonation as one of the biggest problems the body faces across the country, lamenting that some candidates have two NINs (National Identification Numbers), which he said “has defeated the purpose of identity verification”.
He added, “We have a case of a father impersonating his son, taking an examination for the son. Are you not destroying your son’s future?
“Two of them are now in custody. I can’t understand what the father will now tell his son when they are both locked up in the same cell. This did not happen in Kaduna, but I don’t want to disclose the state.”
The examination body had also sanctioned one of its officials in Lagos for directing a female candidate to remove her hijab during its 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
