TRUETELLS Nigeria reports that Oseni made the remarks during a programme on Arise Television, where he argued that several EU nations have existing arrangements with Iran that allow their vessels to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without interference.
According to him, countries such as France and Denmark have secured agreements that ensure uninterrupted maritime movement, reducing their incentive to align with the United States in any conflict scenario.
Oseni further suggested that strained relations between Trump and European allies could hinder any attempt to rally their support. He noted that the U.S. leader’s approach to global diplomacy may not inspire cooperation from EU member states.
He said, “Most of the EU nations already have deals with Iran. Their ships are getting through anyway. France got their ship through, Denmark got theirs through. These countries have been able to negotiate access across the Strait of Hormuz.
“So they don’t need America or Trump to disrupt those existing arrangements. They are unlikely to listen to him, especially given his approach to international relations.”
Oseni also criticised Trump’s foreign policy stance, alleging that his actions have alienated key allies, particularly within NATO. He referenced tensions surrounding Ukraine, claiming that previous decisions had weakened trust among NATO members.
He added that recent developments, including reported attacks linked to Iran-aligned groups on U.S. interests in Iraq, further complicate the geopolitical landscape.
Oseni concluded that the evolving dynamics suggest Europe may choose to protect its own strategic and economic interests rather than join any U.S.-led escalation against Iran.
