According to officials, an EU ban on tattoo ink and permanent make-up containing chemicals suspected of causing cancer or other health concerns entered into effect on Tuesday.
Truetells Nigeria reports that the Hazardous compounds such as azo dyes, carcinogenic aromatic amines, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), metals, and methanol are also covered by the ban.
European Commission stated, “The prohibition encompasses carcinogenic, mutagenic, and reprotoxic compounds, chemicals forbidden in cosmetics, skin sensitizers, skin and eye irritants, metal impurities, aromatic amines, and several colours.”
“The preservation of European citizens’ public health is our first priority, and harmful substances in tattoo ink can constitute such a worry,” Sonya Gospodinova, a commission spokesperson, told journalists.
At the national level, seven EU countries have already implemented the prohibition.
