EFCC Releases Obiano After Six Days In Detention

The former Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano has been released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

According to the Daily Trust, an official of the anti-graft agency confirmed the development, adding that the “passport was seized by the anti-graft agency as part of his bail conditions.”

Recall that Obiano was arrested by operatives of the commission at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

The former governor was arrested hours after handing over to the new Governor of the state, Charles Soludo.

There were claims that Obiano was planning to jet out to the United States of America before he was arrested.

Obiano was subsequently transferred to the headquarters of EFCC, where he was quizzed for days over alleged mismanagement of N42bn and inflated contract.

The former governor was granted bail on Monday but he couldn’t meet the bail condition.

Obiano was, however, released on Wednesday evening after meeting the bail conditions.
