Truetells Nigeria that the suspect was arrested at a hotel on Tuesday, February 14, for falsely parading himself as EFCC’s Executive Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, as well as other officers of the Commission.
The anti-graft agency in a statement said the suspect obtained the sum of N100,000 from someone he convinced with a promise to handle any matter with the EFCC.
EFCC added that the suspect has given useful information and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
The statement reads: “The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, arrested one Salman Umar Hudu, a 38-year-old indigene of Kano, at a hotel in Abuja, for falsely representing himself as the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, and other officers of the Commission, and obtaining N100,000.00 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) from a person he convinced that he can ‘handle’ any matter with the EFCC.
“The suspect has given useful information and will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.”
In other news, a Federal High Court sitting in Nasarawa State has sentenced one Akende Gbande Mark for defrauding victims of an aggregate sum of N211,300 airtime.
Akende was sentenced on Tuesday after he was arraigned by the Makurdi Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on a one-count charge of fraud.
According to the EFCC, Mark did an airtime transfer of the aggregate sum of N211,300 from an Access Bank Account No. 3024934975 belonging to one Danjuma Bello between July and September, 2020 in Makurdi
