Two street cleaners have been killed by an unidentified driver at Charly Boy bus stop along the Oshodi-Gbagada expressway in Lagos State.
According to Daily Trust, the driver was fleeing from officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) when the incident occurred.
The lifeless bodies of the cleaners were reportedly found in a drainage channel on Monday.
Some onlookers including street cleaners were said to have gathered at the scene to see the remains of the deceased persons, leading to a blockade of the road and traffic congestion.
The victims who were said to be from the same family, were hit by a vehicle whose driver lost control after swerving while fleeing from LASTMA officials, eyewitnesses said.
“This has been happening for a very long time, the exploitation and the wickedness by Lagos state government and LASTMA, this wickedness must stop.
“Look at what happened, two family members died because a LASTMA official was chasing a bus. This has been happening for a very long time,” said a resident, identified as Friday.
However, some street cleaners were seen lamenting at the scene, accusing the state government of endangering their lives.
Meanwhile, there is an ongoing protest organised by commercial bus drivers in Lagos to kick against alleged extortion by LASTMA officials.
Some of the drivers who joined the protest displayed placards bearing inscriptions to express their grievances against LASTMA.
