Dangote refinery sold petrol to us at N898 per litre – NNPC

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited says premium motor spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, was bought from Dangote Petroleum Refinery at N898 per litre.

Olufemi Soneye, the chief corporate communications officer of NNPC, confirmed the price while speaking to TheCable on Sunday.

There had been reports that NNPC purchased petrol from Dangote refinery at N766 per litre.

However, Soneye said for “this initial loading, it was N898 per litre so far”.

The price is above the N855 per litre NNPC set its retail stations’ pump price to on September 3.

NNPC had recently increased the price of PMS from about N600.

Speaking on when the petrol loaded from the Dangote refinery will reach the market, Soneye said he is not sure, adding that “our own is to get load to the control distribution”.

On Saturday, the federal government said distribution of Dangote petrol will start on Sunday.

Earlier today, Dangote refinery announced that the company has started loading petrol into NNPC trucks.

A day before, NNPC deployed over 100 trucks to the petrol-loading gantry of Dangote refinery.

The mobilisation of trucks into the Dangote refinery followed an announcement by the federal government that NNPC will be the sole distributor of petrol produced by the refiner in Nigeria.

The announcement ruled out the possibility of any direct deal between Dangote refinery and oil marketers.

However, the government said the Dangote refinery can sell diesel to any off-taker.

Dangote refinery commenced petrol production on September 3.

On the same day, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) said the Dangote refinery is expected to supply 25 million litres of petrol daily in September and will subsequently increase the volume to 30 million litres daily from October.
