A Police Inspector attached to the Zone Two Command headquarters in Onikan, Lagos,was on Sunday, July 23, murdered by suspected cultists in the Ijanikin area of the state.
The cultists, suspected to be members of the Black Axe confraternity, attacked the Inspector at Alasia Bus Stop, around 9pm. Eyewitnesses say the hoodlums numbering about seven had an issue with a close friend of the Inspector famous for his anti-cultism stance in the neighbourhood on Friday, July 21. It was reported that the assailants, numbering about twenty, ambushed the officer and axed severally on the head until he was confirmed dead.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said a suspect identified as Sunday Igboro alias Ashile, has been arrested in connection with the incident while efforts are being made to apprehended the others who are currently on the run.
