Court Jails Nigerian Footballer 12 Years For Internet Fraud

Federal High Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, has jailed one Jacob Wisdom Chukwuemeka, a professional footballer for six years over offences bordering on internet fraud.

The anti-graft agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ilorin Zonal Command, arraigned the convict before Justice Muhammed Sani on Monday.

He was arraigned on two counts bordering on possession of funds acquired fraudulently.

A statement by EFCC’s Head Media and Publicity Wilson Uwujaren on Wednesday said the footballer was convicted and sentenced after he pleaded guilty to the two counts “owing to his arraignment with the commission”.

Uwajaren said Chukwuemeka was sentenced to six years for each count, adding that the sentence will run concurrently.
