Chippers, Executive Initiative Partner to Tackle Illiteracy through Sports

 

Chippers in partnership with the executive initiative has organized a scholarship and sporting programmes for secondary and primary schools in Tarkwa Bay area in Lagos state.

According to the organizers the aim of the programme is to get the children of the Tarkwa bay back to school in order to give them a sense of belonging, through the event with the theme: Chipping away illiteracy through football.

Among the schools who benefited from the scholarship and gifts from the host were; Government Senior school, Government junior secondary and Epiphany primary school all in Tarkwa bay.

Speaking at the programme the marketing campaign manager of chippers Goldie Iyanu said that the aim of the programme is basically to get the children of the Tarkwa bay back to school.

“We are here to kick off our new initiative which is chipping away illiteracy through football, we decided to partner with executive initiative, we are trying to look at the synergy between education and football, football is the biggest sport in the world and it helps bring people together and I believe education is important to create world where your dreams can be achieved.

At chippers we believe that education is very important and every child should have the opportunity to learn.

We focused on Tarkwa bay because of the peculiarity of this community, looking at what happened in 2020 when thousands of people were displaced here, one thing we noticed was that after the displacement most children here took football as part of them and the suffering that follows.

Also speaking Dare Asobele form Executive Initiative said that the essence of the event is to use football to bring people together by chipping away illiteracy in schools.

“The essence of this event today is to bring people together using football with focus on education and also paying for scholarships for 20 students in order to assist them in school after the displacement of 2020 in Tarkwa bay, so as to support them.” He said.

In his view Okoolo Joseph who represented the principal said that the programme is a good initiative as it helps the children to learn more using sports.

“It is a nice programme as the students are happy and have a good game, this initiative has helped the students to learn more using football and I thank the organizers of the programme for this wonderful gesture as they have made the children happy.” He said

The teacher from Epiphany Anglican Primary Abagbo, Tarkwa bay, Doris Zebulum said that there is a lot to learn from extra-curricular activities as students need to come out and socialize with other students from other schools.

“There is a lot to learn from extra-curricular activities as students need to come out and socialize with other students from other schools, the students are happy because they are able to play inter-sports with other schools.

Some of them were given scholarships thereby taking away the burden from the parent and everyone is happy and we hope that this kind of gesture will continue because I believe it will always help in teaching the student and creating a better learning environment.” She said,
