The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has dismissed as false reports circulating online about the introduction of a ₦5,000 banknote bearing the image of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a brief clarification, the apex bank stated that the viral content is fake and urged Nigerians to disregard it. The CBN emphasized that no such currency design or plan has been approved or announced through any official channel.
The misleading claim, which gained traction on social media platforms, sparked widespread reactions among users. While some quickly identified it as false, others speculated about the possibility of introducing higher denomination notes in the future.
The CBN advised the public to rely only on verified information from its official platforms and cautioned against spreading unconfirmed reports capable of causing confusion.
