The National Assembly Service Commission has appointed Magaji Tambuwal as the Clerk of the National Assembly.
Truetells Nigeria recalls that there were controversies at the National Assembly months ago when the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) named Tambuwal as the successor of the outgoing Clerk to the Nation
His appointment at the time was said to have violated relevant sections of the National Assembly Service Commission Act 2014.
A Public Affairs Analyst, Haruna Abdulsalam Mohammed noted this in a publication four months ago. However, Tambuwal was confirmed for the position in a letter dated Wednesday, 29th March 2023.
The commission also confirmed Ogunlana Kamoru Esq. as the deputy clerk to the National Assembly.
The statement read in part, “The National Assembly Service Commission has confirmed the appointment of Magaji Tambuwal as the Clerk to the National Assembly.
“His confirmation was approved at the 573rd meeting of the commission held on Wednesday 29th March 2023.”
The PUNCH reports that the commission had appointed both Tambuwal and Kamoru as Acting CNA and Acting DCNA respectively on 18th November 2022.
The appointment of the duo followed the retirement of Mr Amos Ojo as the clerk of the National Assembly and Mr Bala Yabani, the Deputy Clerk.
Tambuwal’s appointment was however greeted by a lot of controversies including the refusal of the former Clerk, Ojo to step down.
Ojo was due for his pre-retirement leave in November 2022 before his tenure came to an end on February 14, 2023.
However, Ojo said he couldn’t leave office because he had to help conclude the passing of the 2023 Budget and the Constitution Amendment bills.
Prior to his appointment as the clerk to the National Assembly, Tambuwal was the secretary of the Directorate of Finance and Accounts in the National Assembly Service Commission.
