Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have once again targeted critical infrastructure in Yobe State, causing the collapse of two Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) towers in Kasaisa Village along Kasaisa-Damaturu-Gujba road.
The attack which occurred on Friday morning had resulted has plunged the state capital and its environs into darkness.
The incident was the second in three months, coming one month after the TCN had repaired the facility and restored electricity to the region.
When contacted, the Assistant Director, Public Relations Officer, Operation Lafiya Dole Sector 2 Damaturu, Captain Shehu Muhammad, confirmed the incident.
“It’s so unfortunate, the vandals bring down the towers,” he said.
Recently, Boko Haram fighters escalated their attacks in four areas; Gubja, Gulani, Geidam and some parts of Damaturu, the state capital.
Residents of Damaturu said the recurring incident underscored the urgent need for enhanced security measures to protect vital infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted power supply in the state.
