Popular crossdresser and socialite, Idris Okuneye, more commonly known as Bobrisky on Monday filed a notice of appeal challenging his conviction on a four-count charge of Naira abuse.
This was seen in a Notice of Appeal filed by his lawyer, Bimbo Kusanu, where Bobrisky is urging the Court of Appeal to set aside the six months imprisonment sentence imposed on him and replacing same with the option of a fine of N50,000 on each of the counts against him.
SaharaReporters earlier reported how a Federal High Court in Lagos had sentenced Bobrisky to six months in jail without the option of a fine over naira abuse.
Bobrisky was arrested by personnel of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Lagos State.
This had been confirmed by the agency’s spokesman, Dele Oyewale in a telephone conversation with SaharaReporters.
According to the EFCC spokesman, Bobrisky was arrested for mutilation of naira notes and not for his lifestyle as a cross-dresser.
SaharaReporters had also reported how a popular Nigerian socialite and businessman, Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, was arraigned before the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State last Wednesday for the same offence.
The court later granted Cubana Chief Priest bail at the sum of N10million with two sureties in like sum after he pleaded not guilty to the allegation of tampering and abusing the Naira during his trial.
