Benin Palace Sanctions Chief, Queen Over Unauthorized Visit by Influencer Peller

The Benin Traditional Council has sanctioned a palace chief, a queen, and other individuals following the unauthorized entry of social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat Adelaja, popularly known as Peller, into the Oba of Benin’s palace.

The council described the incident as a violation of established palace protocol and a disruption of order within the revered traditional institution.

According to findings, Peller and his team gained access to the palace without adhering to the laid-down procedures, an act that reportedly caused embarrassment and unrest within the palace environment. TRUETELLS Nigeria reports that the breach prompted swift disciplinary measures by the council.

Following a preliminary investigation, a palace chief linked to the incident has been suspended, while a staff member, Mr. Omuemu, has been arrested and charged for allegedly facilitating the unauthorized entry.

The queen involved in the matter is currently under review and could face possible removal, depending on the outcome of further deliberations.

The council has also summoned Peller to appear for questioning and directed him to submit a formal written apology. It warned that failure to comply may attract legal consequences.

In response to the incident, the council has introduced stricter access regulations to the palace. These include mandatory written applications, prior approval before visits, a ban on loitering within palace premises, and the issuance of official access passes.

It further emphasized that any future breach of these rules would be treated as a violation of traditional law, with offenders liable to arrest and prosecution.

Reiterating the importance of preserving the sanctity of the palace, the council stressed the need to uphold the cultural and spiritual integrity of the Benin Kingdom.

Peller is currently on a tour across several states in Nigeria.
