The Bayelsa State Government has declared Friday, April 10, 2026, a public holiday and directed the closure of markets ahead of the scheduled visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The announcement was made in Yenagoa by the Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai. She explained that the decision was taken to enable residents to participate fully in activities marking the President’s one-day visit to the state.
According to the government, the visit will feature the inauguration of several key infrastructure projects. These include a state-owned gas turbine at Opolo-Elebele, a 60-kilometre dual carriageway from Onopa to the LNG axis, and a 630-metre bridge linking Angiama to Oporoma in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.
Residents, including traders, have been encouraged to comply with the directive and turn out in large numbers to welcome the President. The government added that the measures are aimed at ensuring a smooth and successful visit.
