Ahead of the election, APGA was under serious threat due to the performance of Obi’s Labour Party in the February 25 presidential election. Naija News recalls that Obi’s LP won the state in a landslide.
Hence, the popularity of the former Anambra state governor was expected to win over the state house of assembly for the Labour Party since there was no governorship election in the state this year.
However, the Obis’s wave didn’t halt all APGA’s candidates as the party which is currently in power won more seats in the state’s house of assembly than any other party.
APGA which produced Governor Charles Soludo in 2022, won 17 seats in the 30-member legislature on Saturday. The Labour Party got eight seats, the YPP grabbed three, and the PDP got two seats.
Note that the Labour Party and the YPP have never won any seat in the state’s assembly in the history of the state.
APGA won in Anaocha 1, Njikoka 2, Dunukofia, Aguata 1, Aguata 2, Awka South 2, Ayamelum, and Njikoka 1.
They also won in Idemili South, Oyi, Anambra East, Awka North, Ekwusigo, Anambra West, Ihiala 1, and Ihiala 2.
While LP won in Onitsha North 1, Onitsha North 2, Onitsha South 1, Onitsha South 2, Awka South 1, Idemili North, Orumba North, and Anaocha 1.
The PDP won in Ogbaru 1 and Ogbaru 2, while YPP won in Nnewi North, Nnewi South 1, and Nnewi South 2.
