APC Lawmaker Sent To Prison Two Days To Election

The lawmaker representing Etche/Omuma federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Ephraim Nwuzi has been remanded by a Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, at Nigerian Correctional Centre in the state.

Nwuzi was remanded at the correctional centre following a remand proceeding filed against him by the Rivers State Police Command.

The state police command had accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Etche-Omuma Federal Constituency of treasonable felony, conspiracy, the motion of communal crisis and inciting violence.

The counsel to the lawmaker, Emenike Ebete on Wednesday when the matter was mentioned in court, made an oral bail application.

The prosecution and the investigation police officers in charge of the matter, however, opposed the bail application when it was mentioned.

He asked Nwuzi to be remanded to pave the way for proper investigation and arraignment.

The presiding Magistrate, O Amadi-Nna after listening to the arguments remanded Ephraim Nwuzi based on the allegations.

Counsel to the lawmaker, while addressing newsmen outside the court, said the offences preferred against his client were insufficient to warrant a remand.

Ebete stated, “We have also submitted to the court that the offences disclosed in the particulars and affidavit attached to the alleged allegations were not sufficient enough for him to be remanded.

“The court in its wisdom held that the offences are gracious and that he should be remanded in prison custody until the 3rd of March 2023, pending when a charge will be preferred against him by the state.”

Nwuzi was tried over an inciting video where he allegedly directed his supporters to attack some persons, including officials of INEC during the elections.
