The Actors Guild of Nigeria, an affiliate of the International Federation of Actors (FIA), has suspended actress Halima Abubakar indefinitely for her role in disseminating slanderous information about fellow members and patrons.
This decision follows a thorough investigation by the special Secret Investigation Panel, which was tasked with probing the activities of certain blogs and bloggers since 2022.
According to the internal memo from the office of the National President, the panel’s findings revealed that Abubakar was responsible for spreading damaging rumors, particularly concerning extramarital affairs involving prominent figures within the industry.
As a result, she will face the National Disciplinary Committee to determine the full extent of her punishment.
During her suspension, Abubakar is prohibited from participating in any actors’ guild activities or filming. The National and State Chapter Taskforces have been instructed to ensure compliance with this order, as violations may result in further disciplinary measures.
The memo also noted ongoing investigations into other female members who are on the watch-list, particularly concerning recently released names linked to the Senate President.
The National President commended the diligent work of the investigative panel in uncovering these issues, emphasizing the Guild’s commitment to maintaining integrity within the industry.
The statement reads, “Following the thorough investigative report by the special Secret Investigation Panel set up to conduct an internal underground secret investigation into the activities of some blogs/bloggers since 2022.
“After two years of the painstaking investigations, the Panel found out that Miss Halima Abubakar was behind all the slandering information of our members, associates and patrons, especially news of extra marital affairs linked with highly placed individuals in the society emanating from the industry.
“Therefore, Halima Abubakar is hereby placed on indefinite suspension from the Actors Guild of Nigeria. She will face the National Disciplinary Committee to determine her full punishment.
“During this period of her suspension, she is not permitted to participate in any AGN and or filming activities.
“The National/State Chapter Taskforces have been duly mandated to monitor the compliance of the above order as violations of the suspension rules may lead to further disciplinary actions.”
